Riddle:
God
made everything excellent, therefore homosexuals are excellent?
Irshad Manji posed the following riddle in her book,
The trouble with Islam:
How can the Koran at once denounce homosexuality and declare
that Allah "makes excellent everything He creates"? pg 25
I have already dealt with the issue of Islam’s view on
homosexuality. According to Irshad Manji’s propaganda, she declared
that homosexuality is ok, because the Quran contradicts itself on the issue by
first condemning homosexuality, then later declaring homosexuals to be
“excellent”. Apparently, the Western media were quite convinced, as they
broadcasted this alleged contradiction all over the world in one of the most
intensive propaganda campaigns I have ever encountered. The verse Irshad Manji
is referring to is the following is Surah 32 verse 7:
Who made everything He has created good, and He began the creation of man from clay. (As-Sajdah 32:7)
But once again, Irshad fails to read the scripture in its context. The Quran further states on this matter the following:
Whatever of good
reaches you, is from Allâh, but whatever of evil befalls you, is from yourself. And We have
sent you (O Muhammad SAW) as a Messenger to
mankind, and Allâh is Sufficient as a Witness. (An-Nisa 4:79)
We can see that the Quran plainly states Allah
created everything good, but the evil is from ourselves. This means all things originally
were good, but man takes what is good and turns it to evil. Nevertheless, man
can not create a thing; rather man can only mutate or alter what God already
created. Evil is simply a mutation of good. It is also interesting to note,
that the Quran coincides with the second law of thermodynamics which
suggests that systems naturally progress from order(good)
to disorder(evil).
To further illustrate this concept, take the example
of Satan. Satan originally was good. It was only when Allah asked him to bow
down to Adam, that Satan out of pride refused, and thus Satan became evil.
Now, one may hold the view that people are born as
homosexuals. Therefore, how can a baby do evil, even before he is born? The
answer to this question is that it is also possible for people’s evil to affect
others. Let’s take for example a woman who drinks alcohol during her pregnancy.
Modern science has confirmed that drinking alcohol during pregnancy leads to
what is known as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome(FAS). FAS can
lead to mental retardation, as well as a whole host of other problems in the
infant. Therefore, we can see from this example, that because of the mother’s
evil (drinking alcohol) it affected her baby. This example proves that people’s
evil affect others.. even
babies.
Perhaps, we now have a very good explanation for the origins of homosexuality.
It is very possible that homosexuality is the result of some evil, perhaps
perpetrated by parents or others. The issue of ‘how’ do people’s evil affect a
baby is quite irrelevant. We will leave that for science to answer that
question. I just deal with the theological part.
