Dear Mr. Ahmed:
I have read with fascination some of your writings against me
and others, concerning Islam.
Normally, I ignore most of these letters, due to the fact that
the author is just interested in attacking the person, rather than discussing
and debating the facts. If your aim is to simply attack me, or other Muslims
who have converted to Christianity, then I have absolutely no interest in
this discussion.
If, however, you would like to DEBATE the issues of Christianity
versus Islam, then I believe we might have an interesting opportunity. Here
is what I propose:
THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE: Take the money OFF the table- I do not
do this for money. I am interested, however, in a debate via e-mail.
1. You pick any topic you wish, concerning why you do not
believe in Jesus Christ as Messiah. E-mail your question to me here.
2. I will answer. We both should keep our answers as brief as
possible, so as to give space for further dialogue.
3. I promise you I will post both the question and answers, in
their ENTIRETY, and UNEDITED, on my website. I ask that you agree to do the
same. I will not, in any way, add any commentary to the excahnge.
I will post it "as is." Again, I ask that you do the same on your
website.
4. Our answers (and questions) should deal with the topic of
Christianity vs. Islam as stated.
5. After I answer you, I will then ask you a question along
those same lines. Again, I promise that I will post the full exchange,
UNEDITED. Your full and complete response on the topic will be posted on
erguncaner.com.
6. We can continue to do this for any number of questions- but I
am really interested in this. This can be an actual Cyber-Debate on some of
the most important issues of eternal significance.
If you are in agreement with these points, Mr. Ahmed, then I believe we are in agreement. You shall defend Islam, and I
shall defend Christianity. Let the readers of our respective websites decide
for themselves.

Hello there… good to hear from you. You wrote:

I accept your offer to debate the issue of
Christianity versus Islam. We can sit down and discuss this like gentlemen, why
not?

the Christians are interested in creating some complex 53424432 page legal
document with you. Here… let me explain to you what I mean as I share with you
this true story:
Once upon a time,
there lived a very wealthy millionaire named Craig Winn who wrote a nasty
little book entitled, Prophet of Doom. Craig Winn went all across
the country spreading his venom against Islam from radio to televisions shows
doing LIVE interviews after interviews reaching out to millions upon millions
of people, all the while, never thinking that his views would be called into
question… but he was wrong. That was his first miscalculation.
ExamineTheTruth.com, and my good buddy Jalal Abdualrub and other apologists hunted him down for the
purpose of exposing his misinformation and false scholarship.
At first, Craig Winn refused to allow his views to be question in a debate.
Rather, he restricted the people who had opposing views to email exchanges, and
thought that would suffice, while he spread his propaganda via radio and
television to millions upon millions of people. That was his second
miscalculation. You can imagine the reaction if John Kerry refused to debate
George Bush and instead suggested to do some written paper exercises…
ridiculous. Needless to say, the Islamic delegations refused and demanded a
fair debate face to face, there can be no substitute
for this. In response to this Islamic debate challenge, Craig Winn issued the
following statement:
“And Nadir, Osama, Jalal, and all the others are too
late. Craig has returned to his first love—Yahweh’s Scriptures. After doing
1500 hours of live broadcast interviews and debates on the direct connection
between Islam and terrorism, Craig has received a promotion. He no longer has
to spend his days wallowing in Satan’s hellish scriptures. He has returned to
amplifying the full meaning of Yahweh’s words as they are presented in His
prophetic writings.”
To put it
short, Craig Winn refused, and ran from the debate challenge. The Muslims were
standing firm and ready to debate their beliefs, but the Christian’s legs were
wobbly. His retreat was a terrible embarrassment for
his flock of followers, and even worse, he lost credibility and could not be
taken seriously. Craig Winn’s
flock expected an aggressive challenge to be met with an even more aggressive
defeat and humiliation of Islamic apologists and Imaams.
But, these supporters soon found out that their fearless leaders was NOT what
they thought he would be and fell way short of their expectations.
As a result of
the Winn bubble bursting, many of these Christian readers turned to Islamic
websites to get a more balanced approach, and many have left their prejudices
against Islam behind. I have received many
emails from faithfreedom.org, prophetofdoom.net and answering-islam.org
expressing their reservations over this.
Left with no choice, Craig Winn caved
into the pressure of both Christians and Muslims and backtracked on his
previous statement, he ignored “Yahweh’s promotion”, and decided:
“Let’s
get it on…”
He then accepted the debate challenge proposed by Jalal
Abdualrub on the nationally syndicated Mike Gallagher
radio show, and was exposed very badly (you can download the debate
*here*). In front of millions probably, Jalal Abdualrub cornered him and
challenged him to show where Islam promotes terrorism, but Craig Winn was not
able to produce. Thus, Craig Winn went down like a clown from the boogie town.

of story…
Therefore, just like our response to Craig Winn… Ergun Caner, you have conducted probably one of the most
intense media propaganda campaigns against Islam appearing on countless radio
and television shows beamed into the homes of millions upon millions of people,
but… when knowledgeable Muslims calls your views into question, you restrict
him to some email exchange? I’m sorry, but we will have to decline your offer.
As I mentioned, neither the Muslims nor the Christians will settle for this, so
it’s really out of my hands. Rather we request a face to face public debate in
front of a live audience. There is no substitute for this. Just like how you
encourage our young Americans to be brave… face the enemy
head on in Iraq, you should also show the same courage, and face
ExamineTheTruth.com in a fair, moderated debate in which we discuss the *truth*
claims of Islam and Christianity in a respectful dignified manor… and do it for
them. The ball is in your court Caner.
*Considering that you have spoken at thousands of
churches or Christian organizations, then perhaps that
would be a good venue for the debate? If not, then I have several MSAs and different
colleges where I debated at and Mosques who would gladly sponsor the debate,
just let me know. Also, in the spirit of fair debate, we will provide you with
all our material and arguments before hand so you can be prepared.
