Find out of how a kid’s cruel hoax bamboozled
the credulous Caner brothers
into Christianity.

They say that stupidity can be passed on genetically from a parent to child. Please do not misunderstand me, I am not calling anyone’s religion stupid. I don’t believe in insulting anyone’s religion. But the reasons given for the Caner brother’s conversion are so absurd, that one can not resist from breaking out into fits of laughter. Ok, you may say, that I am bias, but certainly our ex-Christian friends(*),(*)(*),(*),(*),(*),(*) are not going to buy into the reasons offered by Ergun Caner, and we will hear from one of them shortly.

So why exactly did Ergun Caner convert to Christianity? The answers will shock you. Folks, you have to see this to believe it. According to Ergun Caner, he sited the following reasons for converting to Christianity:

“No Muslim has eternal security. Every Muslim fears the scales of justice, which weigh his good deeds against his bad deeds.” (*)

“Muslims are taught that everything good or bad that you do, every motive, every thought, deed and act that you do is recorded,” Caner said. “Islam is the ultimate works-centered religion.”

”To a Muslim, when life is over, the good and bad are weighed, and so “you can be a good Muslim and still go to hellfire because of the scales. If you have been a great Muslim but still have more bad than good, you go to eternal hellfire. Only one thing erases the bad scales. Only one thing guarantees eternal security for a Muslim: Martyrdom after a declared war and jihad.” (*)

What the…!@! These are total lies! These are not the doctrines of Islam. Rather, Islam does guarantee eternal security for ALL BELIEVERS. But the only stipulation, is that as a result of the sins we commit, it is hypothetically possible that a believer may spend a TEMPORARY time in hell. Here is the evidence:

Volume 9, Book 93, Number 600:

Narrated Anas:

I heard the Prophet saying, "On the Day of Resurrection I will intercede and say, "O my Lord! Admit into Paradise (even) those who have faith equal to a mustard seed in their hearts." Such people will enter Paradise, and then I will say, 'O (Allah) admit into Paradise (even) those who have the least amount of faith in their hearts." Anas then said: As if I were just now looking at the fingers of Allah's Apostle.

Book 001, Number 0355:

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported: Verily the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Allah will admit into Paradise those deserving of Paradise, and He will admit whom He wishes out of His Mercy, and admit those condemned to Hell into the Fire (of Hell). He would then say: See, he whom you find having as much faith in his heart as a grain of mustard, bring him out. They will then be brought out burned and turned to charcoal, and would be cast into the river of life, and they would sprout aj does a seed in the silt carried away by flood. Have you not seen that it comes out yellow (fresh) and intertwined?

It is also possible that a believer may receive a punishment in this life due to his sins. But as clearly stated, all those who put their faith in Allah, will be saved. Therefore Ergun Caner was clearly mislead about the teachings of Islam. I really don’t know who is responsible for playing this cruel hoax on Ergun Caner, but I will assume that it was the minister’s kid, Jerry Tackett. But it gets worse. We read further in Caner’s testimony:

“Ramadan. We read the Qur’an and Hadith regularly. In every way, we were devout, serious Muslims. But our devotion was not an act of love, but of fear”(*)

In my 33 years on the job, I have never met a Muslim, or for that matter any religious person who served and worshiped God but had no love for his God. I would request any Christian to produce that person for me. Therefore, I don’t think any intelligent person can buy this nonsense presented to us by Ergun Caner. Although, there are many people who struggle in distinguishing between fact and fantasy, and I’m sure that Ergun is appealing to that crowd. This should not come as a surprise, as we have *busted* Dr. Ergun Caner telling lies about Islam, and we have a $5000 dollar challenge to back up what we say.

But the deception gets a lot worse. Ergun Caner further shares with us the bogus arguments presented by the pastor, which convinced him to become a Christian. We will now examine these arguments, and we will have a former Christian now Atheist apologist friend of mine, Derek J. Sansone comment on them:

“After hearing about the saving grace of Jesus Christ, it became evident to Ergun that Islam was wrong about one seminal thing: there was no way that Jesus could have been a prophet, as Islam taught. Jesus was arrested and imprisoned on a dual indictment—the Romans held Him for insurrection, the Jewish leaders convicted Him of blasphemy, that is, claiming to be God.” (*)

Derek J. Sansone Responds:

This is simply a matter of historical assumption. They don't know any of this factually. They can use the text all day long. But in the end, you still have to rely on hear say. Questionable authorship, and hope that there is nothing fictitious about the content. And that my friend is impossible. They are trusting books that have no way of falsification or verification. These are stories....

“Islam, in order to resolve the matter of the Resurrection, teaches that Judas, not Jesus, was crucified, allowing Jesus to appear three days later. Yet even that bit of misinformation doesn’t confront the larger issue of Jesus’ deity. Even extra-biblical history notes that Jesus claimed to be God, an act of blasphemy, which was a capital offense.” (*)

Derek J. Sansone Responds:

So? It's still a matter of written documents that no one can confirm any truth. It's a matter of trust and hope. Both the Muslims and Christians are without the facts, because they weren't there when these things were written down. The Muslims are giving the gospels too much credit. If I was Mohammad I would have rejected the entire bible and started fresh. Completely cutting off from the Jews and Christians....

Here's is the deal with working from old books. You may have some truth in them. But you don't know it. At best you can suggest that these things may have taken place. But you can't confirm it. No matter how much you like the content. When dealing with history, there is very little we know. Matter of fact, I maintain we know nothing. We can only suppose based on calculated scrutiny. But knowing??? Not a chance....

My response:

I disagree with Derek regarding Islam, I hope I will have a opportunity to share with him the evidences for Islam in the near future. But we see that there is more factual error. Islam does not teach that Judas was crucified instead of Jesus, and there is not a single shred of reliable historical evidence which would ever demonstrate that Jesus claimed to be God. This again, is bogus information.

To borrow a motif from the Christian philosopher C.S. Lewis, if Jesus claimed to be God, He couldn’t have been a prophet. He could have been insane, like those who wander the streets assuming they are divine. But if He were insane, He couldn’t have been one of Allah’s prophets. He could have been a fraud, deceiving people, but, again, an impostor and charlatan couldn’t have been a prophet of Allah. Ergun faced one other option: Jesus who He said He was: Immanuel—God with us.” (*)

Derek J. Sansone Responds:

This is the fallacy of false dichotomy.

Also a little hint the "True by default" fallacy. Basically this is arguing from ignorance. The reasoning here goes as follows: One person in a debate puts forth a naked assertion that such and such is true. The opponent cannot provide an alternative explanation. Therefore, the first arguer claims that his position MUST be true, since there is no alternative explanation.

The entire article was an argument from ignorance which occurs when one makes a positive claim based on a lack of information. Basically, the claimant assumes that since something has not been proven false, it is therefore true. But you can't make claims without reason or evidence. All a lack of information can tell you is that you do not know. A claim's truth or falsity depends upon supporting or refuting evidence for the claim, not the lack of support for a contrary or contradictory claim.

An argument from ignorance often is merely an expression of one's desires and little more. The Skeptic's dictionary calls it "wishful thinking".

In conclusion, After reading Ergun Caner’s testimony, every bone in my body was screaming out how someone could be so credulous and gullible. I mean, that takes some effort. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Upon closer examination of his testimony, it revealed his conversion to Christianity was actually the result of a cruel hoax. Not only did the church hoax Ergun into believing lies about Islam, but the pastor’s entire argument for Christianity was based upon the premise that the Bible is 100% accurate and infallible. But, he never proved that. Therefore, the pastor’s entire case for Christianity was based on ignorance. The young Ergun Caner was not intelligent enough to detect these false arguments. Thus the crux of the problem is that Ergun Caner lacked critical thinking skills, and as a result, the pastor took advantage of him (*).

At this point, a Christian may claim that it is not any logic or reasoning which leads a person to Christ, but it is the conviction of the Holy Ghost. But this does not resolve the problem. Because we must ask, why did the Holy Ghost use lies and deception to convict Ergun Caner’s soul to Christ?

Finally, we leave you with Yusuf Estes, a pastor who left Christianity for Islam, but here is the difference: Yusuf Estes was not fed a bunch of lies and distorted information for him to base his choice on… that’s the difference!
